A prominent fertilizer manufacturer and distributor began expanding its 1,700-acre plant along the Missouri River near Sioux City, Iowa. Among the largest economic developments in state history, the $1.7 billion capacity project is set to triple ammonia production and enable granular urea production upon its completion in 2016. The creation of up to 2,000 jobs in construction and an additional 700 in related industries is also expected as a result of the project.
A leading licensing company for urea fluid bed granulation technology based in the Netherlands was awarded the OEM contract. Their piping requirements included competitive pricing and complete, accurate, fast delivery. With a cost-effective bid and a faster lead time than the competition of only five to six months, Tioga was awarded the job.
Despite unforeseen challenges within the production mill, Tioga was able to leverage their existing relationship to make this project a priority, getting the job back on schedule. Tioga delivered A53 carbon pipe, A335 alloy P11 pipe, API5LB DSAW carbon steel and A333 GR.1/6 low temperature pipe exactly as promised, and continues to get more business thanks to delivery time, specifications and pricing. Once the expansion is complete, American farmers will be guaranteed a secure supply of nitrogen fertilizer, and the Siouxland economy will enjoy a long-term positive impact.
