One of the largest petrochemical plants along the Gulf Coast was expanding its 3,900-acre chemical plant in Channelview, Texas. The facility features two world-scale olefins units that manufacture feedstock such as ethylene, propylene, butadiene and benzene for operations at the north plant, making propylene oxide, styrene monomer and other chemical building blocks for the manufacturing of clothing, bedding, packaging and automotive parts.
A global engineering, construction and services company in Houston was awarded the contract for the Channelview Complex expansion, a huge project that will potentially boost the plant’s ethylene capacity by 550 million pounds per year. The project called for timely delivery of specialty pipes that would require specific chemical composition; each grade made of certain percentages and composition of material outside of the industry ASTM standards.
Due to its vast inventory, project management service and competitive pricing, Tioga won the contract, supplying the expansion project with both chrome moly and stainless products. Specifications included: chrome pipe (SA335 in grades P11, P22 and P91), chrome forged fittings (SA182), chrome buttweld fittings (SA182 and SA234), chrome flanges (SA182), stainless pipe (SA312 in 304L and 304(H) grades), stainless fittings (SA403) and stainless flanges (SA182). Additionally, Tioga’s project management team worked with the mill directly to ensure production deadlines were met and that all components were delivered with zero delays.
